Pump up the benefits

You might know Arnold Schwarzenegger and his long list of movies and achievements. Arnold has an amazing newsletter called The Pump Daily, where he schmoozes about the positive corner of wellness.

Highly recommended by the way!

Arnold talks about the importance of keeping track of daily tasks and celebrating yourself for achieving them.

I never really understood the value and importance of keeping track and "checking" off daily tasks.

But it seems to work... I just need to decide the fun part... how to reward myself!

Here's an example of how I note (track tasks) on a simple monthly calendar...

  • A = Arnold's 10 minute workout suggestion
  • W = weight routine / workouts

January was a bit random but February really kicked in... I hit the 10 minute workout from 6th Feb onwards.

10 minutes a day is pretty easy to fit in, right?

You should be able to do a similar thing using your new printable calendar!

Rewarding yourself

Let me quote from Arnold's Pump Yourself Up digital guide...

"There’s a final part of this, and it’s keeping track of your daily tasks and celebrating yourself for achieving them. You have to reward yourself! And while I used to make tally marks on a chalkboard in my room, technology has made tracking small tasks much easier. Use the tasks or reminders function on your machine (mobile phone), and write down your three actions. Set it up so you get reminders every day, and every day, check them off. Five minutes of Duolingo, done. At the end of the day, look at your list. Take a minute to congratulate yourself on completing it. At the end of a week, look at all those checked boxes and give yourself a real reward. Have something decadent for dinner. Take your family to a movie. Remind yourself this is because you kept moving and checking boxes every day. This might feel small, but we are trying to do something big here. With little actions, we are changing your whole identity."

Most of it won't happen overnight but over a month you'll be able to see changes.

Note: I haven't added Duolingo language study to my daily tasks calendar yet either!

The 3 key parts to achieving your goals are Vision, Action and Celebration.

The big picture view

Having a visual representation of your daily routines can help you stay focused and remind you when it's time to switch tasks.

For example, if you want to make sure you get up for your morning run every day, setting a reminder on your yearly calendars app can help ensure that you do.

You can also create routine reminders for weekly or monthly activities such as submitting reports or sending out invoices.

Having these visible on the calendar will help you stay on top of your deadlines.

So for me, once I get a "pump in" (thanks to Arnold) then I note this down on my calendar. Every 10 minute workout I get in is marked with an "A" and so forth.

Once I have 10 of those little A's ticked off (10 days worth in a row) then I go and celebrate... in a healthy way!

Goal setting

Another great way to use printable calendars is for goal setting.

You can set personal goals for yourself, such as reading more books, learning a language, or taking time out for yourself each day.

By writing the goal down in your yearly calendar and assigning it a specific time frame, you’ll have a better chance of achieving it.

You can also use the calendar to make a plan for how you’re going to achieve that goal and track progress along the way.

Daily tasks and routines

You want to keep track of your day-to-day tasks and routines, right?

To do this, write down each task in the calendar and assign it a specific day and time. Then with a glance you'll know what needs to be done each day.

This can help make sure you don’t miss any important tasks or deadlines like submitting a school project, paying the car registration, or researching what you need for your new eco home!

So by using the calendar everyday you'll be able to reinforce healthy habits, set goals, stay on top of tasks, and probably become an early morning person too!

Customise your printable 2023 calendar

To get the most out of your free printable calendar, it’s important to customise it in a way that works for you.

Here's the steps to doing that:

  • Start by writing down all your daily tasks and setting reminders for them.
  • Assign each task a specific day and time so you know when to do it.
  • Add any goals or long-term projects that you want to complete and include details about how you’ll achieve them.
  • Customise the calendar with different colours or designs to make it more visually appealing.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I'd encourage you to get your pump daily and hang out with Arnold's daily digest. A lot of good insights and beneficial research has been "pumped" into that newsletter!

People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.”

~ F. M. Alexander.
