We’ve all heard the phrase “writing it down helps you remember better.” But why is this true?

Research has shown that physically writing things down stimulates the brain's hippocampus, which plays a key role in forming and retrieving memories.

This means that when we write something down, our brains are more likely to recall it later on.

And if we make writing things down a habit, then our ability to remember important information increases significantly.

So how can we get into the habit of using daily planners every day? Let's take a look!

Making a habit stick

First, start by identifying the tasks that need to be completed each day and write them down in your planner. But how do you do this?

Sit down in a quiet space (where you can relax) and let yourself daydream a little about the things you need to do... then capture (jot down) those ideas on paper.

You can prioritise these things if you need... or just add them into your own planner.

This will help you quickly organise your day from start to finish. It'll also give you a visual reminder of the things you need to do, which can help keep you motivated and on track.

It's said it takes 60 days to form a habit so if you physically write down what you need to do every day using a pen then that habit will (hopefully) become part of your routine!

(I write notes for a) what needs to do today and b) what needs to be done this week).

You may also want to use our planner pages to schedule any important appointments or meetings for the week. This way you can plan your day more efficiently (and not forget anything!)

A bit like this...

Monday: Gym, lunch with Elon, vegan pizza night.
Tuesday: Charge electric car, French study meetup, 22 km mini marathon...
Wednesday: Start fasting 🙂
Thursday: Housekeeping stuff, start planning pages for next week...
Friday: Ocean swim and cycling!

You get the idea!

Beating overwhelm

So yep, make a list of any tasks that need to be done for the week and add them to the amazing planner that you just downloaded. (You did, right?)

This will help you feel less overwhelmed since you'll have an organised (or visual) overview of what needs to be done.

What that means is that just by looking at your planner you can see...

  1. what's on for the week
  2. what's on for the weekend, and
  3. what you need to do everyday!

Paste or put this weekly planner up in a place you get to see it every morning / evening...

Review and adjust

Set aside a few minutes each day to review your planner and adjust any tasks that need to be moved or rescheduled.

This will keep you focused on the most important tasks at hand and help you stay organised.

Using our printable planner can help you quickly organise your day and keep you on track. The most effective way to use it is by using it EVERYDAY.
