How we get paid to write
Maybe it's not normal, but we do actually get paid to write, and you can too.
Our process is (somewhat) easy to implement, but it does take some grind and legwork.
It roughly functions like this...
- What can you offer? (Ie; SEO (search engine optimisation) or blog posts and articles on a topic)
- Search out people who run a small business and could use help with reaching more customers (ie; use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc).
- Find out what they are struggling with (it's usually needing more traffic to their products or services or website!)
- Approach them with your offer (use Messenger or email, any tool can work)
- Your offer can be to write a free initial article and if they like it the cost is $X.
- Get to know them and help them. Send invoice.
We initially offered a SEO service to the client, but... it's a tough call to do SEO for clients, especially if they are not willing to partake in their side of things!
Then we boogied-down into the glamorous world of writing articles... to be specific, keyword optimised articles (we use UberSuggest and Surfer SEO to help us percolate that!)
So the day to day tools we use for that are:
- UberSuggest (free version is perfect for vast majority of us)
- Surfer SEO (has a monthly cost / there are probably free versions that do similar / you may not need to use this tool either. See image below)
- Jasper AI which we recommend for keen freelance writers with an eye on the future
That's it in a nutshell!
We use Jasper to help us complete the articles... seeing as he probably knows better than us (and is a ripper at research!)
Right off the top he knocked out a 1000 word article (for the client) in 20 minutes or so.
We add images (Pixabay is free), make sure it's well written (edit and tidy up), then post the published article on the client's website... and invoice him every month.

Secondly, you need to be able to market yourself effectively. You'll need to create a portfolio of your work, and you'll need to be able to talk to potential clients about your skills.
If you can do these things, then you're well on your way to making money from writing. And of course, Jasper can perform all the extra duties you might need too!
